Beyoncé Becomes First Black Woman to Score No. 1 Country Album With ‘Cowboy Carter’

Beyoncé has made history with Cowboy Carter as she’s become the first Black woman to ever top Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

Billboard made a big announcement last Sunday: Beyoncé’s latest album, “Cowboy Carter,” snagged the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. This marks Beyoncé’s eighth album to hit the top, which is a huge accomplishment in itself. But that’s not all – she also knocked Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing At a Time” off the top spot on the Country Albums chart.

In its debut week, “Cowboy Carter” sold over 407,000 units in the U.S. That’s massive! It blew away the competition, leaving Future and Metro Boomin’s “We Don’t Trust You” in the dust, with just 131,000 units sold in its second week. Beyoncé’s album pulled in over 300 million on-demand streams and sold 168,000 traditional album copies, making it a force to be reckoned with.

This album debut is Beyoncé’s biggest since “Lemonade” back in 2016, when streaming was just starting to take off. And it’s not just about the numbers – it’s also about the history she’s making. Despite the success of Black male artists in country music, Beyoncé is the first Black woman to top the Country Albums chart. It’s a milestone that speaks volumes about her talent and the need for more diversity in the genre.

This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has shaken up the country music scene. Her song “Texas Hold ‘Em” became the first by a Black woman to reach the top of the Hot Country Songs chart. And now, with “Cowboy Carter,” she’s bringing together country legends like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, along with artists like Miley Cyrus and Post Malone. Plus, she’s shining a spotlight on trailblazers like Linda Martell, who’s featured on the album.

But the big question now is how “Cowboy Carter” will fare on country radio. Beyoncé’s previous hit, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” got a lot of attention but didn’t climb very high on the Country Airplay chart. And as for “Jolene,” Beyoncé’s track that Apple Music promoted as a top country pick, it’s currently sitting at number 56 on the chart.

So, as we wait to see where the album’s tracks land on the Hot 100 and if it can hold onto its top spot against Future and Metro’s new release, one thing’s for sure – Beyoncé’s got the music world buzzing.

It’s yet another feather in the cap for a music icon who’s already won 32 Grammy Awards.1
